What to see in Rimini Historic Centre with children

From the Club Family Hotel to the discovery of Roman history, between secrets, legends and a family bike ride!

If you wish to alternate days at the beach and pool with a touch of culture and history, the historic centre of Rimini is a true open-air museum, where the eras and architectures that made this city unique and great span from ancient Ariminum to the locations of Fellini, passing through the Malatesta family. A journey through history perfect to explore together with the whole family. From the Club Family Hotel Rimini Village, you can reach the historic heart of the city in two very convenient and fun ways:

  • On our bicycles: you can use the bikes with child seats that we provide free of charge at the hotel. With a pleasant and safe ride of about 30 minutes, you will have arrived at your destination!
  • By car in just 19 minutes: we suggest setting your GPS to Parcheggio Bramante. It is located right next to the historic walls, is extremely convenient, and will allow you to immediately start the walking itinerary, which is completely flat and perfect even for strollers.

Here is the perfect itinerary, in order of proximity to the car park, that we have selected for your family walk:

  • 1. The Arch of Augustus: the starting point
Leaving the car or parking your bikes, you will immediately find yourselves in front of the oldest surviving Roman arch in Italy, built in 27 BC. This was the monumental gateway to the city: try to let your children imagine real Roman soldiers in armour passing right before your eyes!
  • 2. Piazza Tre Martiri and Piazza Cavour, passing through the Old Fish Market (Vecchia Pescheria)
Now, strolling along Corso d'Augusto, you will arrive in the beating heart of Rimini, the ancient Roman forum today dedicated to the three young partisans who became martyrs in this square. A little further ahead, you will find the charming Old Fish Market with its historic 18th-century stone counters where fish used to be sold. Pass through it to reach one of the city's most characteristic spots, ideal for a short stop or to take a souvenir photo: Piazza Cavour. Here, between Palazzo dell'Arengo, Palazzo del Podestà, the restored Galli Theatre, the Statue of Pope Paul VI, and the iconic Pigna Fountain, everything tells the history of Rimini over time.
  • 3. The Tiberius Bridge and the Square on the Water (Piazza sull'Acqua)
Continuing the walk, you will arrive at this imposing stone bridge that has stood intact for two thousand years. Challenge your children to look for the mysterious marks left on the stone blocks: legend calls it the "Devil's Bridge" due to two strange imprints resembling goat hooves pressed into the rock! Below the bridge, instead, lies the artificial reservoir, the focal point of the Piazza sull'Acqua, which in summer becomes the setting and stage for a series of cultural events and musical shows where food, with majestic food trucks, is often the protagonist.
  • 4. Borgo San Giuliano: the colourful magic of Fellini
As soon as you cross the bridge, you will enter the picturesque Borgo San Giuliano. This ancient fishermen's district will enchant you with its narrow streets, colourful houses, and beautiful murals painted on the facades, depicting characters from the films of the great director Federico Fellini.

Borgo San Giuliano is the perfect place to end your trip beautifully. Before taking your bikes or car back to the hotel, we absolutely suggest you stop at one of the historic shops in the village to enjoy a true, artisanal, and traditional Romagna piadina. Are you ready to explore Rimini with us?
